Often, clients come to therapy seeking that one answer that explains it all. I rather think we are more like puzzles, and all of our pieces represent all of the different things that come together to make us who we are. Who we become is influenced by biology, family structure, culture and society. I believe, underneath all of these influences, we are spiritual beings who are worthy of happiness and function better connected to others. As a therapist, I am honored to help clients achieve such happiness and connection.
I find myself telling most clients that each one of us is viewing and interpreting the world through our personal movie of perception. This perception is heavily affected by how we feel and what we believe to be true (which may not always be true). I specialize in helping clients recognize how their perspective affects their life experience and enjoy assisting clients in shifting their perspective as a means of achieving their goals. It has been my experience that feelings of anxiety and depression are very common feeling states that can hinder perspectives. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychoeducation to give clients the tools for success.
It is part of the human experience to struggle. It builds character. It’s an opportunity to discover your strengths and challenge self-defeating beliefs. I am always privileged to be part of someone’s discovery.
As a therapist, I have extensive experience with the following:
- Anger Management
- Anxiety/Panic Attacks/Phobias
- Bipolar Disorder
- Domestic Violence
- Dual Diagnosis
- Eating Disorders
- Family Conflict
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Relationship Issues
- Sexual Abuse
- Stress Management
I am a firm believer that we are always where we need to be, and that each experience we have is meaningful. I have been lucky enough to have worked in a variety of settings: in-patient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient programs, substance abuse clinics, public schools and in private practice. I use this collective experience along with my degrees in Psychology (B.A.) and Counseling Education (M.S.) – both received from California State University Sacramento, to provide quality counseling to my clients.
