Are You Longing For A Stronger Connection To God/Source/All That Is?
Have you tried various forms of organized religions but haven’t been happy with any of them? Are you unsure if you believe in God—or in anything beyond what your five senses perceive?
Perhaps you are searching for something that you sense is always present—just out of reach of your conscious awareness—but you are unsure how to connect with it. Maybe you want to try out some spiritual practices, such as different forms of meditation, but you are uncertain where to begin.
Or it could be that you are angry at God for the way the world is and you want a safe place to work through your anger, underlying sadness, and hurt, with someone who can bear your pain.
Would you like to connect with someone who can help you get in touch with your deeper, inner wisdom where creativity, compassion, and peace of mind reside?
If any of this sounds like you, I can offer you caring spiritual guidance and support.
Spiritual Counseling Can Help You Honor and Deepen Your Spiritual Connection.
Your spiritual journey is the most important and profound journey you can ever undertake. A spiritual connection is, ideally, what sustains and nourishes you as you face hardship and seek meaning. It helps you experience life deeply—and feel deeply alive. Spirituality is what feeds your soul. So cultivating that connection is crucial to living a happier—perhaps even healthier—life. Working with a spiritual mentor can help you enhance and maintain your spiritual connection so that you can rely on it in times of need and embrace it in times of joy.
In a space of compassion and respect, I offer spiritual exploration and spiritual processing psychotherapy for exploring your spiritual beliefs. We can also work on finding a spiritual practice or path that is right for you—one that can help you search for your greater purpose and life’s meaning.
I also work with those who’ve become psychologically and/or spiritually injured by past affiliations with religious institutions—or with cults—and those who feel that God—or whatever is “in charge” of life—has no interest in them. In addition, I offer spiritual therapy to those who have been sexually wounded by priests and other religious leaders and cults.
As well, I offer spiritual counseling to those who have experienced mystical and kundalini experiences that have shaken the foundation of what they previously believed and felt was who they were and what is true.
Regardless of your situation, I offer an open, safe, and nonjudgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings related to your current spiritual and religious path. I am well-versed in Eastern spirituality and have studied and participated in organized Western religions—both Judaism and Christianity.
I do not proselytize! Rather, I help you find your own path and your own true way.
What Spiritual Counseling Can Offer You
* I teach various meditation practices and other means of accessing your deeper “soul’s knowing.”
* I offer tools, guidance, and inspiration for spiritual awakening and heart-centered consciousness. I utilize the spiritual teachings and techniques of Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle, and Adyashanti—an Eastern spiritual teacher of enlightenment with whom I have studied for over 20 years.
* I use therapeutic tools, such as EMDR, guided visualization, hypnotherapy, dreamwork, and mindfulness practices.
I studied Eastern religions in graduate school and have been a longtime student of Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta. I also facilitate a monthly meditation and spiritual exploration group that has met for the past 18 years. (See http://www.awakening2spirit.org)
My Master’s degree is in Transpersonal Psychology. (Transpersonal means beyond the personal dimension.) It is a field of psychology that is inclusive of the spiritual aspect of our being.
For over 30 years, I have been a student of inner psychological and spiritual growth. This journey has led me to many inner and outer discoveries. It has helped me develop strong intuition and a spiritual connection that is the impetus responsible for energetically connecting me with others in a loving, respectful, and humble way.
Developing Your Spiritual Practice
So how do you develop your own spiritual path? How do you find a spiritual practice that works best for you?
If asked if we follow a particular religion, many of us would say, “I’m spiritual but not religious.” But can we claim we’re as spiritual in our lives as we want to be? In truth, most of us are very preoccupied—with our jobs, our families and the hundreds of distractions that fill the modern world. So how can ordinary people, who just can’t run off to the monastery, develop their own particular connection to Spirit?
Regular spiritual practice can help us cultivate the sacred in our lives. But there is no one-size-fits-all approach that works for everyone. “Practice” can refer to a wide range of activities—not just the traditional sitting on a meditation cushion or twisted in an intricate yoga pose. Which discipline to adopt is about what works for you, your personality, and your circumstances.
Research On The Benefits Of Spiritual Connection
First off, what is spirituality? There are many definitions, but in general, it is the personal connection to a non-material dimension of life variously called God, the Divine, the Sacred, Presence, Awareness, the Ground of Being, or Consciousness. Regardless of the name it goes by, spirituality plays a profound and enduring role in peoples’ lives.
San Francisco State University researchers studied the individual and social benefits of spirituality. They found five positive characteristics in people who engage in some kind of spiritual practice:
* Spiritual people are gracious. They feel and express gratitude. They are optimistic and generous with their time and money.
* Spiritual people are compassionate. Empathy for others is one of the strongest markers of a spiritual life.
* Spiritual people flourish. They enjoy healthy relationships, high self-esteem and find meaning and purpose in life.
* Spiritual people self-actualize. They value personal growth and work toward fulfillment as a central goal.
* Spiritual people take time to savor life experiences. They are more conscious of small, daily activities and thereby experience positive emotions in simple pleasures.
Those who engage in some type of practice to enhance their spiritual growth can look forward to steady improvements in mind and heart, such as the following. A spiritual practice:
* Helps to develop mental clarity and a better ability to focus on the task at hand.
* Provides steadiness and grounding in the face of life’s challenges.
* Helps you see the “bigger picture” of your life and the world around you.
* Helps you appreciate the simple pleasure that comes with noticing the beautiful things around you.
* Helps keep you in the “here and now,” not lost in thoughts about the past and future.
* Connects you to the divinity that resides inside and outside each of us.
People experience the spiritual realm in different ways, so if making your spirituality a consistent part of your life is challenging, you’re not alone. Connecting with that essential spiritual element isn’t always easy.
I would love to assist you with your spiritual path—the most important part of your life—the part that gives the deepest meaning to your life.
